There is SO MUCH to gain from doing a Little Passengers antenatal & hypnobirthing course (and literally nothing to lose)! But you will notice there’s no mention on my graphic of:
🧞A pain-free birth
🧞Ways to avoid intervention at all costs

That’s because no one can, or should, promise you a certain type of birth. Birth can be as unpredictable as other areas of life, and as midwives on the frontline we only deal in realistic & honest antenatal education!😎👌

We absolutely focus in on the holistic ways that you can work with your body & birthing hormones and provide you with everything you need to stack the odds in favour of a smooth, comfortable birth 💪

But the beauty is, we also place great importance in ensuring you are prepared for any eventuality…so you will:
👉 be clear on how to use our techniques even if plans change
👉 have tools specifically to help you handle things positively if pregnancy or birth throws you a curveball you weren’t expecting
👉 learn how to make safe but personalised decisions along the way that keep you feeling in control however things pan out

Our many incredible reviews speak to how valuable our approach & expertise truly are so don't forget to check them out!

And when you realise you need to get you & your birth partner signed up 💡💡, my next award-winning course at Windmill Hill City Farm is starting 10th July!

Whatever your thoughts, wants & plans are for birth, discovering hypnobirthing will benefit you immensely…

At Little Passengers we’re all about choice…so whether you’re planning on ‘having all the drugs’ to get you through labour, wanting to stay open-minded about medical pain relief, or are really keen to do things as naturally as possible, we’re the cheerleaders for you! We just want you to feel confident, informed with real, accurate knowledge & have tons of ways to help yourself have a calm birth experience 🙌👌

🤷‍♀️Have we had clients who have chosen to have an epidural? Yes!
🤷‍♀️Have we had clients who have felt no need for any pain relief at all? Yes!
And of course, everything in between 😁
🤷‍♀️ Have all of those clients used hypnobirthing to the max? Yes!

Practicing hypnobirthing doesn’t mean you say no to everything else…and choosing pain relief or opting for intervention when it’s needed certainly does not mean that you are no longer hypnobirthing!

Our ultimate aim is for you to have a positive birth experience, and that is not defined by birth happening in one particular prescribed way but more by you feeling empowered to make decisions that are right for you & your baby! 💪

So if you’re thinking hypnobirthing wouldn’t be for you because you’re not a ‘drug-free waterbirth at home’ kind of person, it might surprise you to know that what you will learn with us is just as relevant for all kinds of labours & births & will ALWAYS help to make that birth better…

It is a very natural thing for birthing women to feel like a ‘patient’ when they come to hospital to give birth, even though the vast majority are not ill in the slightest 🤔

When they walk in & see a bed in a hospital room, they tend to get on it and sit back! It’s what it’s ‘meant’ for right? Well, there may be times you might WANT to do that or be asked to do that…but do you HAVE TO? Nope.

It may surprise you to know that that bed can be used in many different ways:
👉 They are designed to raise up in the air so that you can be comfortable standing on the floor and leaning on them
👉The backs of the bed can come up 90 degrees so that you can kneel and lean over the back easily
👉 You can sit completely upright on the bed with the bottom half lowered right down in a ‘throne’ position 👉There are often stirrups that unfold from underneath that can support your leg in a side-lying position

All of these other positions are fantastic in labour and birth, taking advantage of gravity and giving your pelvis space to move and widen as much as possible for baby to pass through more comfortably and easily 🙌 Most women will find sitting still actually makes their contractions feel way more painful 😳 There are SO many advantages to staying off your bum in labour!

So yes, the bed in your birthing room can just be a bed if that’s what you’d like at the time (& there’s nothing wrong with getting in it if that’s what you feel like doing!)….but you might also like to think of it more as an active birth aid to help keep you mobile! 👌

If you’d like to discover more practical top tips like this one, along with everything else you need to know to prepare for an incredible birth, check out our upcoming course dates

April is International Caesarean Month so it seems like the perfect time to announce that there’s something new on offer from Little Passengers! 🙌

You all know by now that I’m passionate about imparting tools, not ideals. I teach expectant parents to trust their instincts, ask questions, make informed decisions. To know how to create the best birth environment possible for themselves that will help them achieve what they want, and to ensure they receive the level of individualised care they deserve. I love creating birth partners that can be relied upon as an integral part of the birth team, who can work together confidently with caregivers 💪🦸‍♂️🦸‍♀️

I know first-hand the power of the techniques I teach for reducing anxieties & calming the mind, for deep physical relaxation & increasing comfort…and this drives my need to pass these gems on! 😎

But each and every element of my carefully designed antenatal & hypnobirthing course is directly applicable to every single type of birth – including caesarean birth! It’s a course that prepares you for anything 😁👌

But if you are PLANNING a caesarean birth, whatever the circumstances or reasons, I have developed a new 3-hour workshop just for you! I’ve combined these invaluable tools with vital practical information taking you through every step, expert top tips & discussion of your choices to make this birth a really personalised & positive start to life with your new baby 👶😍

Imagine walking into that theatre feeling confident, calm & supported… with the ability to relax on demand and just enjoy meeting your baby 🤷‍♀️

Is it the mealtime madness, the bedtime negotiations, the emotional meltdown’s over a broken biscuit (yes, the biscuit was genuinely my reality this afternoon 🥴)? Maybe it’s not being able to leave the room for one minute to pee in peace without being hunted down or screamed for through the house?! What has really pushed your buttons today…let me know in the comments 💬💬

There’s so many things on a daily basis that really challenge our sanity & our sense of self when we’re a parent to toddlers/young children 🤯😤

Of course all those outpourings of emotion, behaviours, the pushing of boundaries to their limits, are completely developmentally normal for a child navigating the world & testing out how it works… Does that make it any less frustrating, stressful or triggering of our own big feelings?🤷‍♀️ Not one bit.

There is tons of really fantastic guidance to be found for handling challenging toddler behaviour, finding the right words & actions to respond & de-escalate situations…but what I hear a lot is ‘I can’t stay calm enough to even think straight, let alone use any strategies!’ and it’s so true!

Calmness will always be your best friend in parenting…As well as being exactly what your child needs, it also helps you:
😎Think more clearly & rationally
😎Be proactive rather than reactive in testing moments
😎Reduce the guilt that comes with turning into ‘shouty mum’ too often
😎Feel in control & confident in your parenting
😎Get on with having a happier day, rather than carrying a shed-load of accumulating tension/anger/anxiety around with you

We all need more calm in motherhood…and that’s where my Find Your Calm Workshop comes in! It is all about YOU! 🥰 Staying calm in-the-moment is just one part of helping the whole experience feel less stressful and more enjoyable…come and join me & some other frazzled mums on my next 2-hour virtual workshop at 7.30pm on 28th April and discover simple, achievable ways you can look after your own wellbeing in amongst the chaos ✌️😁

Whilst it feels to many of us that the threat and restrictions of Covid are very much starting to be put behind us here in the UK, in areas like maternity care things are a little different.

I was contacted this week by a client of mine who is days off her due date and was in a panic as she’d just tested positive, knowing that if she went in to labour whilst testing positive she would be advised to labour on the obstetric unit instead of the midwife-led birth suite, so that her baby could be continually monitored throughout.

This is a big potential change of plan to get your head around and naturally the anxiety had ramped up. More so, she was worried that her partner would also start testing positive, and not be able to accompany her during her labour. This is by far the biggest fear that the majority of pregnant couples I chat to have about the Covid situation.

So, responding to my client with information on her options and reassurance has been a timely reminder that so many others will be going through very similar situations right now. SO, just wanted to drop my top tips here for anyone who needs them….

Well….I guess birth can look like this but this is a staged stock image based on what most people imagine labour and birth to be like! No wonder when it’s what we see all the time in those over-dramatised movies, soaps & docu-tv shows isn’t it?🙄 The woman is always on her back, legs akimbo, screaming in agony, wild-eyed & purple in the face. She’s surrounded by people looking pretty frantic, shouting at her to “push” like there’s some sort of emergency!😳

Of course you’re feeling a bit apprehensive about birth! Or even bloody terrified 🤯

As a midwife I’ve seen my fair share of births that have been long, painful, needing intervention, sometimes even traumatic – there’s no denying that. But what you might not have considered is that birth doesn’t HAVE to be this way….actually, plenty of births happen a very different way entirely. I am telling you this from REAL experience - I’m so privileged to have seen SO MANY calm, beautiful births with my own eyes! And to have experienced my own…

It’s just such a shame that you don’t commonly see those kinds of images or hear those kinds of stories (I mean why would anyone tune into next weeks One Born Every Minute if there wasn’t something sensationally dramatic to watch?!). But what goes on in your mind during labour very much affects what happens in your body....

So swipe through the following graphics for my gift to you today….just a handful of real-life, in-the-moment images of labour/birth. Soak them in, challenge your preconceptions of what birth is like…and feel that little inkling of starting to feel better about doing it yourself! 😎

Now, if you want to feel a million times better… confident & excited about giving birth even 💪….I have one last space on my March antenatal & hypnobirthing course at Windmill City Farm, starting on Sunday 6th - and we’re booking up for May!

This might be controversial with some hypnobirthing brands, but my approach is that hypnobirthing is a whole toolbox of skills & information designed to help you have a calm, empowered & positive birth…rather than a prescribed way of giving birth 🤔 For me, this is something you USE rather than something you DO (& is as much for pregnancy as it is for birth itself!)😎

So many people believe that hypnobirthing goes out the window entirely if you choose to use any pain relief during birth, or if there’s some kind of circumstance where intervention is needed. It is an absolute travesty when women feel that they have failed to ‘hypnobirth’ their baby - something which I have sadly seen many times in my role as a midwife 😢😠 & something which definitely spurred me on to train & start teaching hypnobirthing in a very different kind of way a few years ago.

In case I need to make my message any clearer: THERE IS NO FAILING WHEN IT COMES TO HYPNOBIRTHING!! It is building a mindset. It is building confidence. It is knowledge. It is techniques that should be taught in a way that make it clear how useable they are in ANY eventuality 💪🙌

Whatever you do, when you’re searching for your perfect birth preparation course, make sure you do your research & choose one that fits with your ideas of what you’d like to achieve. If you’d love to plan for your dream birth AND be prepared for anything, there are still a couple of spaces on my March course at Windmill Hill City Farm, and we’re already booking up for May at Windmill Hill and our North Somerset venue!

Finally got this on here! If you’re thinking that a hypnobirthing course is just for first-time expectant parents who don’t have a clue about labour & birth…take a read of this lovely birth story from a couple who completed my course last year in preparation for their second baby 🥰

Actually I get LOTS of second-timers booking on all the time! Usually this is because they would like to have a better experience of birth than they did the first time around and have heard about how hypnobirthing can help them achieve this. Often they have had quite a traumatic first birth and are wanting to find ways to avoid this next time, and others feel their first birth was actually ‘ok’ but would really like to aim higher than just ‘ok’ for their next precious, life-changing event…

It is just the BEST feeling when I hear that a couple have had a totally different experience - have felt confident and empowered in their decision-making, felt more relaxed & in control and achieved the birth they wanted 💪 Even more so, when the couple are good friends of mine 🥰👌 Sarah & Simon, I’m SO happy for you both, thank you for allowing me to share your amazing story to inspire others!

Maybe you’d like to look forward to your next birth from a whole new perspective and be equipped with a toolkit to stack the odds in favour of an experience you’ll remember for all the RIGHT reasons? Or maybe you’re reading this post and this IS your first baby, but you don’t want to be left thinking ‘if only I’d known how to make birth better’…Why not hop onto one of our upcoming courses and start feeling excited about your birth?!

Spaces available:
👉Starting 6th March @ Windmill Hill City Farm
👉Starting Feb 16th @ Congresbury School Rooms

My absolute favourite bit of teaching my courses is seeing the utter transformation in how expectant couples think and feel about birth! It is just such a privilege to be able to watch those lightbulb moments happening throughout the sessions 💡💡 There's just a different level of confidence and empowerment that you get from having a much deeper understanding of the science and physiology of labour & birth than you get from most antenatal education...I love being able to bring that knowledge to life for people with real, lived & experienced detail 🤗

I recorded this quickly to post on my stories... but I can't work out how to get the whole thing on there properly without it missing some so I gave up trying 🤣🤣

“I felt like a SUPERHERO!” 💪🦸‍♀️

What an incredible way to feel as you give birth! 🙌 For some expectant mums, they have not even considered that they could feel this way giving birth….and why would they? For most of us our expectations of what birth will feel like are drummed into us from an early age….all those dramatic movie scenes of women screaming in agony, out of control, emergencies….all those horror stories friends, family & perfect strangers seem to love to share 🙄…birth is just an ordeal you go through to get your baby right?!😳

Well, if this is sounding even a little bit familiar, then there’s so much I need to tell you about how birth really doesn’t have to be that way at all!! But on top of getting yourself booked on a Little Passengers hypnobirthing course, a cracking place to start feeling SO much better about your upcoming labour is reading positive birth stories 😎 There are so many out there (yup, loads of women have fantastic birth experiences of all types of birth) that can help to counteract all the negative ideas and images about birth that you have banked up in your mind and get you understanding how wonderful it really can be!

Here’s a lovely one to start you off, from a gorgeous couple who completed one of my Zoom courses last year and who I know will have spent their Christmas and New Year feeling completely blessed 🥰 It's taken me a while to post this, but Rachel, you ARE a superhero! I love that you have a birth experience you will cherish & smile about forever ☺️

This is a little phrase I often share with my hypnobirthing clients and it seems quite fitting while I struggle to write a good ‘Happy New Year’ post…

If you’re due to have a baby in 2022, then it’s set to be a very exciting and eventful year! But you may, like for lots of my clients, be finding that the unknowns of birth make it feel so daunting…and sadly, covid uncertainty is probably adding a whole new level to your anxieties 😳🤯

Often the things we feel we have no control over can be scary. It’s easy to overlook the bright side of what your birth experience might be whilst you worry about all the things you’ve heard about or seen on the telly that could go wrong! If you can’t see the possibility of birth being incredible & empowering, if you can’t imagine the best-case scenario…then how can you make it happen?! 🤷‍♀️

Informed optimism is very different from the false positivity you may THINK hypnobirthing is all about. Actually, it’s about having the right knowledge, understanding and tools to really influence not just how smoothly & comfortably labour & birth may happen, but very importantly how you FEEL about it…And when you learn ways to positively adapt to any curveballs you might be thrown, the amazing thing is that ANY type of birth can be incredible & empowering!💪🙌

Sounds good hey? Even better is being guided through all this by a local practising midwife, keeping things real and as up-to-date as you can get on the evolving covid situation in YOUR maternity unit 👌

At the moment, our in-person courses for the new year are still running with small, safe groups with appropriate safety measures in place. To take some the anxiety out of it for you, there will always be a (well-practiced) Plan B on offer should we enter another lockdown…or the option of a full refund if Plan B doesn’t suit you!

⭐️Just 2 spaces left for my award-winning course starting 9th Jan at Windmill Hill City Farm and limited availability for North Somerset couples starting 16th Feb in Congresbury⭐️link in bio

Let us inform you with facts, science & physiology, inspire you, motivate you, help you plan for your dream birth….but be prepared for anything 😁

In particular Oxytocin (which helps us to feel calm and gives us those warm & fuzzies) loves a bit of mood lighting – how different would your romantic dinner feel if you swapped out your atmospheric candlelight for harsh strip lighting?! 🤷‍♀️

So, if you’re pregnant right now…Christmas is a very easy time to feel relaxed and get those positive vibes going! Get lots of twinkly lights on the go around your house! You may find it useful to know that Oxytocin is your best friend in birth too, as it is the hormone responsible for producing and keeping contractions going 💪 So, the more of it you produce in your body during labour the better! Now, there’s lots of ways to encourage plenty of natural oxytocin during your labour for a smoother and calmer experience, but one of my top tips for the festive season would be NOT to pack away those twinkly lights in a couple of week’s time when Christmas is over! Keep them up and hold on to that feel-good effect…if you’re practicing hypnobirthing, the fairy lights will add a whole other layer to your relaxation practice 🙌 Then pop them in your hospital bag to help turn your birth space into a relaxing, sparkly, oxytocin-flowing little nest 👌😎

If you’d like to know a LOT more about how to nab yourself a great birth, feel more confident, informed and ready for anything….then why not secure a space for you and your birth partner on one of our antenatal & hypnobirthing courses coming up in the new year?! There are in-person groups planned for both South Bristol & North Somerset and Zoom courses too! Link for more info & booking in bio/top of FB page 😁
